atmos.about

The atmos.about function runs atmos about through the current Atmos executable. It prints the overview of Atmos, its features, and its benefits.

Usage

atmos.about(
*positionals,
flags = {},
args = [],
working_directory = ...,
env = ...,
output = "stream",
check = True,
)

Subcommands

The atmos about command has no subcommands. The call atmos.about() runs atmos about and returns the overview text. The only flag the command registers is --help.

See the atmos about command reference for details.

note

The output is written for people to read, so calling atmos.about from a script is rarely useful. It works for automation that captures the overview text, for example to include it in generated documentation.

Arguments

*positionals

(Optional) Strings placed on the command line right after about, in order. The command takes no positional arguments. Every value must be a string.

flags

(Optional) A dictionary of command-line options; see flag translation. A bare key such as "help" becomes --help.

args
(Optional) A list or tuple of strings appended after the flags.
working_directory, env, output, check

(Optional) See atmos.run for process options and defaults.

Options other than the positionals are keyword-only.

Returns

A result with stdout, stderr, and exit_code. See atmos.run for output and error behavior.

Examples

Capture the overview text

result = atmos.about(output = "capture")
print(result.stdout)

With output = "capture" the text is returned in stdout and is not shown while the command runs.

Show the overview to the user

atmos.about()

The default output = "stream" shows the overview live and also captures it in the returned result.
